10:35pm: National Poetry Day
Thanks Probodie - almost forgot!!

A favourite of mine - sonnet that is part of a longer poem

Lollingdon Down - John Masefield

I could not sleep for thinking of the sky,
The unending sky, with all its million suns
Which turn their planets everlastingly
In nothing, where the fire-haired comet runs.
If I could sail that nothing, I should cross
Silence and emptiness with dark stars passing;
Then, in the darkness, see a point of gloss
Burn to a glow, and glare, and keep amassing,
And rage into a sun with wandering planets,
And drop behind; and then, as I proceed,
See his last light upon his last moon's granites
Die to a dark that would be night indeed:
Night where my soul might sail a million years
In nothing, not even Death, not even tears.

It's a piece that haunts me - I love it

Staying with Masefield, I love Sea Fever and Cargoes, too ...

Now I must go to bed!

8:20pm: Honey, we stole the train!
Had to go to Cardiff today. The journey home is a train from Cardiff to Gloucester, then change for Worcester.

Standing on a very cold, windy platform in Cardiff and the sign is telling us that the second train will be the 17:08 to Gloucester. The London train comes in and departs. 17:08 comes ...and passes ... and no train. Then it disappears off the board. No explanation, no announcement ... nothing ...

A few minutes later the third train comes in - and it is terminating. At which point the guard who had turned up for the Gloucester train, and who was just as nonplussed as the rest of us! - said:

"Wot the 'ell, we'll take this one!"

He opens the door and we all pile on. Then one of the platform staff bustles up and offers: "I'm not sure you're on the right train."

"Well," the guard replies. "All these people are going to Gloucester, so that's where we're going!"

And we DID! I giggled most of the way there, too.

We stole the train!!!

I love that train guard!

7:52pm: Knackered again
Oh good grief ...

London yesterday - got back at 12.30 am ...(although did manage 2500 words of the Nano before I had to get the train to London - yippee!)

Crawled into bed and set alarm for 5.45am so I could get the 6.50 train to Swansea. Got home ten minutes ago ... no nanoing today - I am sooooo behind!

At least tomorrow I can do a few urgent things from home then concentrate on trying to do a bit more catching up! I hate it when work gets in the way of the important things in life!!!
Current Mood: exhausted
Current Music: a strange buzzing in my ears ...

8:50pm: Wail ...
Day one of Nanowri and how many words have I done? Nada! Zilch! Not a one!
Got up at 5.30 to get to Aber, worked through lunch, left at 5.30pm and I'm just in the door! Going to London tomorrow - will get back 2.30am Wednesday ... then to North Wales on Wednesday afternoon to get ready for hugely important day on Thursday .... ::shivers:: Chances of getting ANYTHING done this week ... fading ...
Current Mood: frustrated

12:31pm: Excitement!!!
Eeep - off to London in an hour - going to see sibs and Dominic! So excited!

Had my scan thingi ... ovaries - check, major fibroids - check, womb - check ... actually my womb is the size it would be if I'd had a couple of kids ... um...huh? Think I would have remembered THAT! However, it's caused by lots of little fibroids (diffused) and nuffink to worry about. It was so nice to get off that bed and wee!!!

Talked to Mum, too and she seems a bit brighter and starting to come to terms with things, so I shall toddle off to London to join the DK stalking party!!!

Must go and pack!
Current Mood: bouncy

8:12pm: Home at last!
Just got back from two days induction in Cardiff. Now I know much more about being a Civil Servant!

I have also been in a pub crawl in Cardiff, found an excellent Mexican restaurant, learned that my co-workers are lots of fun, and discovered that a flatliner is the most disgusting drink ever!

Going to have my tea and catch up with emails, Fedcon reports etc, then get ready for a 6am start tomorrow morning!
